What inspires your blog Saturday Girl SA?
I find inspiration in a variety of different creative places. To name a few – fashion, food and design. And yoga, of course!
What are some sources of inspiration for you?
I get most of my inspiration from the people around me. Each person has a unique talent, quality, skill or personality trait that sparks inspiration in me. I find the people closest to me inspire me the most in life – their positivity, experiences, trials and tribulations are relatable and interesting.
What does yoga mean to you?
Yoga has helped me recover from a serious injury that affected my ability to dance and exercise. It taught me to be patient with my body, to listen carefully to it and to remember that it’s not about anyone else except you and your journey!
The practice unlocked a lot of emotion for me and became a way for me to move my body while still being safe and gentle. Yoga really is about mind, body and soul – it forces you to be patient, kind and not give up easily.
What taste reminds you of childhood?
Lebanese food, especially when it’s cooked by my gran! Lebanese cooking is a huge part of my childhood, of certain dishes take me right back!
You’re Taylor Swift. Who is in your Bad Blood gang?
My boyfriend Neil because he belts Bad Blood out when we drive in his car! Lizanne ( who is a beautiful badass brand specialist and life guru, Colette – a model, entrepreneur and true sweetie pie, Kristi – a wedding photographer and surfer girl of note, Sheri – a blogger, pizza eater and blonde princess and of course you Gabs! A stunning stylish fashionista, blogger, chef extraordinaire and general cool cat. Speaking of cats – I would include my cat Tenacious – the ultimate fluffy bunny and general lady boss (yes, no jokes).
Soundtrack to your perfect party?
Alt- J, Taylor Swift, Bob Marley, The Lumineers and of course, OutKast!
What ingredients go in your favourite smoothie?
Avo! I put avocado in my smoothies because it really bulks the mixture up and gives it a fuller taste. I’m definitely going through a phase of adding chia seeds into my smoothies! Frozen berries are also a major win.
Vanilla and coconut! Both remind me of summer and baked goodies. I also love Miss Dior perfume.
Favourite recipe to cook while at home?
I don’t often follow recipes but when I do my go to cookbook is Bitten by Sarah Graham.
What was the last book you read?
Cheryl Strayed’s Wild – brilliant and inspirational!
Top three places to eat in Cape Town?
Catharina’s at Sternberg Estate – affordable 3 course meal and best risotto ever.
Gibsons at the V&A Waterfront for delicious pork ribs.
Zepata – and affordable tasty Mexican (and the best margaritas).
